The 3 T’s for SENCOs: Time, Technology and Trust

Ahead of the workshop and roundtables sessions that Ginny Bootman will be leading at the SEND Conference 2022, here she gives an insight into the key tips that will be shared at the event.

As busy SENCOs we often find ourselves having that ‘corridor conversation’ instigated by a colleague. Our minds are elsewhere as is often the case in the world of SENCOdom. The fleeting conversation happens and then lo and behold five minutes later the conversation has become a dim and distant memory.

I have learnt ways to help us to minimise the ‘lost conversations’ by really considering when we have those important conversations and ways to record what we need to action as follow ups to the conversations we have had.

Come and join me in my session at the SEND Conference 2022 to find out about some simple time saving ways to help us put a manageable structure to our days and weeks. To prioritise and still not lose sight of all that we need to achieve. I’m sure you’ve all had those days when what once was a priority has now got to the bottom of the to do list. We need to keep in the forefront of our minds what is achievable and not overload ourselves on a daily basis. Keep focused on the daily ‘to do list’ not the ‘everything I would like to do list but is completely unachievable’ list.

Technology is all around us. I feel a 'Wet Wet Wet' song as an ear worm in my head. Whether we like it or not it is here to stay. Gone are the days of ignoring it. As someone who has always shied away from using technology I can talk you through simple ways to make technology work for you and save you time. If I can do it then anyone can.

The role which trust plays in building relationships with parents, staff and children alike is key to our role. I will talk about the spider’s web of trust. So intricate, so difficult to make and yet so easy to destroy. We will be looking at the importance of building that web overtime and ensuring it suits the needs of the individual at that time.

Come and feel reassured and get some new top tips to make your job that little bit easier.
